Lure Living has always been a home to many. But do you know where it all began?

From conversations with locals and past owners, here’s a little history of Lure Living!

Brought in from out West, the restaurant we know and love was a home to Mary Rose Rattenbury. The front of the house began where we walk up the stairs to the coffee machine, and where our kitchen stands now used to be the verandah to the house.

It was opened as a restaurant called JD’s roughly 20 years ago and then became Fasta Pasta. Not long after that, it was opened as Lure.

After closing due to economic reasons, it sat empty for a number of years until Deeann Busby and Sam O’Brien saw the beauty in Lure and spent 12 months renovating to give you the gorgeous coffee and homewares shop that opened in 2013 as Lure Living.

They expanded and changed over the years ultimately focusing on amazing coffee, good food, once-loved clothing and local wares.

The Durbridges have always been apart of Lure Living with Mick Durbridge working as a barista from 2013, Izzy and Cindy from 2015.

When Sam and Deeann put Lure up for sale in 2018, Cindy and her husband Glen had fallen in love with Lure, they wanted to keep the “home” in the Lure family. They built on the community, coffee and food side of Lure Living and have seen it thrive thanks to locals and hard work even through natural disasters and a pandemic. The home they created at Lure Living is like no other.

Cindy, Glen and Glen’s daughter, Izzy, ran Lure together and Izzy learnt the ins and outs of our amazing cafe. In 2023, Izzy and her sister Rachel, took over as owners and have expanded into Dinner and a licensed restaurant. Their focus is community, local produce and as always, amazing coffee.
